Science Adoption

  • Purpose:

    The purpose of the K-8 Science Curriculum Adoption Committee is to review, evaluate, and recommend quality and appropriate science instructional resources for approval by the district Governing Board.  

    Objectives:

    The committee will:

    • Learn about current best practices in three-dimensional science instruction including (but not limited to);
      • explaining phenomena and/or designing solutions to problems,
      • using science and engineering practices to actively engage students in science learning,
      • integrating disciplinary core ideas and crosscutting concepts to drive student learning,
      • science sensemaking,
      • three-dimensional performance assessments.
    • Learn about Arizona Science Standards (AzSS) and Arizona science education requirements.
    • Use research-based rubric criteria to evaluate science curriculum materials and instructional resources.
    • Recommend curriculum and instructional resources to the Governing Board for formal approval and adoption.
