Curriculum

  • Curriculum Goals

The most important goal of the Head Start Plus curriculum is to help children develop a positive outlook toward learning. This means encouraging children to be active and creative explorers who are not afraid to become independent, self-confident, inquisitive learners. Our staff believes in the potential of young  learners and designs learning activities experiences that build on the competence of children.

    Curriculum

The Â鶹Íø Head Start Plus Program uses The Creative Curriculum for Preschool, which aligns with the Arizona Early Learning Standards, and the Head Start Plus Outcomes Framework.

The Creative Curriculum for Preschool translates new research and theory from the field of early childhood education into a practical, easy-to- understand approach to working with children and their families. It is a comprehensive curriculum with a clear organizational structure and a particular focus on interest areas. The organizational of The Creative Curriculum for Preschool includes five components:

    • How Children develop and learn.
    • The Learning environment
    • What children learn.
    • The Teacher's role
    • The family's role.

Â鶹Íø Head Start Plus also implements the Conscious Discipline. It is a comprehensive classroom management program and a social-emotional curriculum. It is based on current brain research, child development information, and developmentally appropriate practices. Concious Discipline ® has been specifically designed to make changes in the lives of adults first. The adults, in turn, change the lives of children. Conscious Discipline® is a way or organizing schools and classrooms around the concept of a School Family. Each member of the family-both adult and child-learns the skills needed to successfully manage life tasks, such as learning, forming relationships, communicating effectively, being sensitive to others' needs and getting along with others.

These components rest on a solid foundation of research. If you have concerns about your child's development, please contact the Â鶹Íø Search to Serve Department at 602-347-4850

    Transportation

It is the parent's responsibility to transport their child to and from school. However, in some cases, students with special needs may be provided transportation by the Washington District, if directed by the child's Individualized Education Plan (IEP) through Search to Serve.
