Attendance
Parents and guardians are to report the reason for their child’s absence by calling our attendance line at 602-347-3311 on or before the day of the absence.
Absences are excused for reasons such as illness, doctors appointmens, beareavement, families emergencies or observance of major religious holidays of the family's faith.

Before/After School Care
KidSpace, Â鶹Íø extended-day child care program, is available for students at our school. KidSpace hours are 6:30 a.m. to start of school and from school
dismissal to 6:00 p.m. Call 602-347-3315 for more information or pick up an information sheet at the school office. -
Breakfast and Lunch
Sunset provides universal free breakfast and lunch daily. Breakfast is served in the classroom at the beginning of the school day. Students must be on time to eat breakfast.
Lunches are served daily in the cafeteria..

Dress Code
Uniforms are not required but students must adhere to the district dress code.
All students are required to wear an ID while on school campus and on buses. To replace a defaced or lost ID the cost is $1. Replacement lanyards, clips and pouches are 50¢ each.
Dress code information:
- Sandals should have a back strap. Flip-flops are not allowed.
- “Heely” shoes are not allowed with the wheels inserted.
- Wheels must be removed before coming to school.
- For safety reasons students are not allowed to go to the playground wearing inappropriate shoes. Parents may be called to bring appropriate shoes for their child.
- Athletic shoes should be worn on PE days.

Extracurricular Activities
Sunset Elementary offers a number of extracurricular activities to our students.
Basketball is offered for students in grades 4-6. Cross country is offered for students of all grades. Soccer is offered for students in grades 5-6.
With funding by a 21st Century Community Learning Center (CCLC) grant and the Washington Elementary School District’s Community Education Program,Sunset offers After School Academy classes to eligible students.

ParentVUE
All parents and guardians have a ParentVUE account that can be used to access important information about their student such as grades and attendance. Parents/guardians will need an activation key to log on for the first time. You can obtain an activation key by visiting the school office and bringing a photo ID. If you have a registered email, you can also request account activation online. Please visit /ParentVUE to get started.

School Supplies
The Â鶹Íø provides all required school supplies, though teachers may send home a "wish list" of additional, optional items.

Student Drop-Off and Pickup
Students should not arrive on campus until 8:05 a.m. as that is when gates will be opened and adult supervision begins.
If you must pick up your child early for an appointment or family emergency, please pick the child up before 3:00 p.m. (on early releasedays, before 1:30 p.m.).
Parents who arrive between 3:00 and3:15 p.m. or between 1:30 and1:45 p.m. on early release days will be asked to wait until the dismissal time. This will reduce the number of disruptions to our classrooms.
- Walkers and students enrolled in special needs preschool and CCK will enter and exit campus through the back gate.
- Kindergarten students will enter and exit through the gate near the north end of the primary playground.
- Students who arrive by car will be dropped off and picked up near the flagpole at the front of the school.
- Students riding bikes, scooters, and skateboards will enter and exit through the front gate

Transportation
Sunset Elementary is a walking school and does not provide transportation to regular education students.
Walkers and bike/scooter riders must always cross the street with crossing guards.Students should only cross Mountain View at the crosswalks by 47th Avenue or 45th Avenue.
Kindergarten and first grade students must have a note from a parent to walk home alone. If a Kindergarten/first grade student is walking home with an older sibling, we ask for a note from the parent approving this and stating the name and grade of the older sibling. -
Visiting Campus
All visitors to campus must sign in at the front office, provide proper ID and wear a visitor's bage while on campus.
